Shivpuri, November 2: A video of Bageshwar Dham chief Dhirendra Krishna Shastri making remarks comparing Lord Ram and Lord Krishna has gone viral on social media, triggering controversy.

According to an ABP Live report, the remarks were made during a Ram Katha programme in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh. While speaking about the differences between the two deities, Shastri said that their Lord stood straight, had a straight name and belonged to Ayodhya, which he described as straight as well.

Taking a dig at the posture associated with Lord Krishna, he said that Krishna is often depicted sitting in a curved posture or standing with three bends in his body.

He also remarked, “Playing the flute may be a game, but wielding a bow is no game,” drawing a comparison between Krishna’s flute and Lord Ram’s bow.

Shastri further referred to Krishna’s association with cattle herding and said, “Herding cows may be a game, but making monkeys dance is no game.” His remarks invoked the reference to Hanuman and the monkey army associated with Lord Ram.

However, Shastri subsequently clarified that his comments should not be interpreted as opposition to Lord Krishna. He said he was not against Krishna and that the remarks had been made in a humorous context.

A video of the speech has since circulated widely on social media, prompting reactions and debate over his comparison of the two Hindu deities.
