Chandigarh, November 2: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is facing a political setback in Punjab ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections, with three party MLAs resigning and joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) within 24 hours of the announcement of the party's candidate list.

According to an ABP Live report, the legislators who resigned are Chetan Singh Jouramajra, MLA from Samana in Patiala district; Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, MLA from Sanour; and Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh.

The developments came after AAP released its list of 40 candidates, triggering fresh political activity within the party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

Following his exit from AAP, Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra praised Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying that Shah fulfils the promises he makes. Speaking about the goal of making Punjab drug-free, Pathanmajra expressed confidence that the deadline set for eliminating drugs from the state would be met.

Another rebel AAP leader, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, reportedly declared that the Aam Aadmi Party was finished in Punjab.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj criticised the BJP, accusing it of collecting leaders from other political parties. His remarks added to the political exchange between the two parties following the resignations.

Separately, Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal described the day as a happy one for Punjab's farmers. He said that Harmeet Singh Kadian, state president of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU-Kadian), along with district presidents and other members, had decided to support the Shiromani Akali Dal in the upcoming Assembly elections.

The resignations and political realignments have added to the uncertainty surrounding Punjab's political landscape ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. The developments could influence the electoral calculations of AAP, BJP and other political parties in the state.
