Bengaluru, October 28: The BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) alliance, or NDA, has won all four seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council elections for teachers’ and graduates’ constituencies. The Congress, which governs the state, failed to win a single seat.
Of the four seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won three, while its ally, the Janata Dal (Secular), secured one. The elections were held on October 23, with the results declared on October 28.
In the Bengaluru Teachers’ constituency, JD(S) candidate A.P. Ranganath defeated sitting Congress MLC Puttanna by 908 votes. Ranganath secured 10,810 votes, while Puttanna received 9,902 votes.
In the North-East Teachers’ constituency, BJP candidate Shashil G. Namoshi defeated Congress candidate Sharanappa Mattur. The BJP also retained the West Graduates’ constituency through S.V. Sankanur and won the South-East Graduates’ constituency with K.M. Suresh.
Reacting to the results, Union Minister and JD(S) leader H.D. Kumaraswamy credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development work for the alliance’s performance. He also acknowledged the contribution of alliance workers and supporters.
The results mark a significant performance for the BJP-JD(S) alliance in the four constituencies. However, the outcome does not alter the overall balance of power in the 75-member Karnataka Legislative Council, where the Congress continues to hold a substantial presence.
