Sudipto Nath, an Assam University alumnus from Jarailtola village in Borkhola, Cachar, worked as a lead character texturing artist on around 90 assets for Ramayana, according to barakbulletin.com.

Nath, who works as a Texturing Lead at DNEG in Bengaluru, contributed to characters and assets, including Airavata, Tadaka, Subahu, Kumbhakarna, Mali, Parashurama, giant warriors, Rakshasas and the Golden Deer, the report said. Namit Malhotra's Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi, was released on November 5.

“This is a job that was once my hobby. Being able to work on my hobby professionally is indeed very fulfilling,” Nath said.

He said texturing was an important part of animation and visual-effects work. He compared it to an idol maker adding colours, ornaments and other details to a grey figure. In digital work, artists add colours and define the surfaces, materials and details of grey 3D models to make characters and objects appear realistic.

Nath said the film was a collective effort and other artists also worked on assets that required modifications at different stages. The project took more than three years to complete, making it one of his longest assignments.

His earlier credits include Toxic (2026), Salaar (2023), Thor: Love and Thunder (2022), The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019), X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales (2017) and Ghostbusters (2016).

Nath completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Assam University as part of the 2003 batch after completing Higher Secondary education in the Arts stream. He later completed a one-year diploma course in 3D animation in Kolkata. He began his career with DQ Entertainment in 2007 and worked there for four years. He subsequently worked with Bengaluru-based Xentrix Studios before taking up assignments in Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Advising aspiring visual-effects artists, Nath said they needed a strong foundation in art, passion and a willingness to keep learning. He said the initial years in the profession could be difficult, but experience and improved skills could lead to better earnings.
