Guwahati, November 6: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a significant claim about a witness in the Zubeen Garg death case, alleging that a prominent cultural figure who led the movement seeking justice for the singer gave a different account before the court.
The Chief Minister said he wanted to refer to a witness who had played a leading role in the movement. According to Sarma, the person had appeared before the court a few days ago and stated in the testimony that Zubeen was also at fault.
Sarma further described the individual as an important leader of the movement and a figure from the cultural fraternity. He said the person had received considerable media attention during the movement, with several of their interviews being widely circulated.
“Witnesses say one thing on television and something different in court,” the Chief Minister alleged, adding that he was speaking on the basis of court records.
He said the names of the witnesses and details of their statements would become available after the judgment. The people of Assam would then be able to examine the matter, he added.
Sarma also said that the Advocate General had informed him about the matter earlier in the morning. However, he did not disclose the identity of the witness.
The Chief Minister’s remarks have brought renewed attention to the statements made by witnesses in the Zubeen Garg death case and the public positions taken by prominent figures during the movement seeking justice for the singer.
