KOKRAJHAR, Nov 7: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) decided to expedite the distribution of land pattas to landless families, with beneficiaries required to pay a nominal fee of Rs 101.
The decision was taken at an Executive Council meeting at the Bodoland Territorial Council Secretariat chaired by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary.
Mohilary said around 8,000 land pattas had already been distributed and the remaining process would be completed within the next few weeks. The council also decided to form a committee to examine a reduction in premiums imposed on land transactions.
The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects and discussed measures to strengthen governance, transparency and inclusive development across the Bodoland Territorial Region.
On the political front, Mohilary said the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) would not support any renewed movement for a separate Bodoland state reportedly being considered by former members of the Bodo Volunteer Force. He said a fresh agitation could disrupt peace and harmony in the region and affect the younger generation.
Mohilary said the demand for Bodoland had not been rejected, but present circumstances did not justify another mass movement. He said prolonged agitations often led to social tensions, disruption of normal life and loss of educational opportunities for students.
Mohilary said the Ustad Kamini Narzary Memorial Cultural Festival would be organised at Halowadal Jijiri ground in Kokrajhar from November 7 to 9. He said the 10-day Daojwng Festival would begin on January 11.
BTC Deputy Chief Rihon Daimary and several Executive Members attended the meeting.
