NEW DELHI, Nov 8: Congress received Rs 130.69 crore in donations above Rs 20,000 in 2025-26, a fall of nearly 75% from Rs 517.39 crore in the previous financial year, according to the party's filings with the Election Commission of India.
The decline was the sharpest annual fall in the party's disclosed donations in a decade. The last steeper fall was in 2015-16, when such donations dropped by around 86% from Rs 141.46 crore in the preceding year.
Congress received Rs 281.48 crore in disclosed donations in 2023-24. Its collection rose to Rs 517.39 crore in 2024-25, when Lok Sabha elections were held.
Funding through Prudent Electoral Trust accounted for a substantial part of the latest decline. Its contribution to Congress fell from Rs 216.34 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 25 crore in 2025-26, a decline of about 88%.
Prudent was the only electoral trust listed in the party's latest contribution report. Other major contributors included Star Cement, which gave Rs 5 crore, Sajjan Bhajanka, who contributed Rs 4 crore, and Prem Kumar Bhajanka, who donated Rs 2 crore.
The BJP received Rs 6,074.02 crore in donations exceeding Rs 20,000 in 2024-25, nearly 12 times Congress's collection. Its contribution report for 2025-26 has not yet been made public by the Election Commission of India.
The figures excluded electoral bonds, which were reported separately while the scheme was in operation. The contribution report did not show Congress's total income, which also included smaller donations, membership fees, coupon collections and interest.
