Kokrajhar, November 6: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) has decided to reduce the land premium for allotment of pattas to landless people to ₹101. The decision was taken at a meeting of the BTC Executive Council chaired by Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary in Kokrajhar on Friday.

Speaking after the meeting, Mohilary said the council had resolved the confusion surrounding the premium charged for allotting land pattas to people who do not own land in their names.

He said the premium for landless beneficiaries would now be ₹101 instead of ₹1,000 or ₹25,000, addressing the issue that had emerged following the earlier notices.

According to Mohilary, more than 8,000 landless people have already received land settlements and pattas. The process is underway for around 4,000 additional beneficiaries. He added that people without land pattas would be given priority.

The BTC has also decided to review premium rates applicable to existing landowners who wish to purchase land. A committee will examine the rates and related permissions for land transactions.

Mohilary said the premium for general-category buyers would be linked to the zonal value of the land. The existing general-category premium of ₹25,000 is also expected to be reduced after the committee’s review.

He further said that if the premium for general-category buyers is fixed at ₹25,000, the corresponding rate for Scheduled Tribe buyers would be 50 per cent of that amount, or around ₹12,500.

The committee is expected to finalise its recommendations within the next 15 to 20 days, Mohilary said.
