Collective rendition of ‘Manuhe Manuhor Babe’ and ‘We Are in the Same Boat Brother’ planned for November 29
Around 1,000 artistes from Assam will travel to New Delhi to perform the iconic songs of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika at the grand finale of his birth centenary celebrations on November 29.
The programme will be held at Bharat Mandapam in the national capital. A major highlight will be a collective rendition of Hazarika’s celebrated songs, ‘Manuhe Manuhor Babe’ and ‘We Are in the Same Boat Brother’.
The Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) welcomed the state government’s decision to organise the concluding ceremony in Delhi. In a press statement issued on Friday, the party congratulated the government led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the initiative.
According to the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend the programme and confer the inaugural Dr Bhupen Hazarika National Award on eminent playback singer Usha Mangeshkar.
The state government has also arranged a special train journey to facilitate the participation of 1,000 students from Assam. The BJP said the initiative would give young people an opportunity to learn about Hazarika’s life, musical journey and humanistic philosophy.
The party also welcomed the launch of an online portal through which members of the public can obtain complimentary e-invitations to attend the event.
