Rangia, November 4: A citizens’ convention titled ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ was held at the historic Hardatta-Biradatta Bhawan in Rangia, with participation from hundreds of prominent citizens from the greater Rangia area.
Organised under the initiative of the 31-Rangia Legislative Assembly constituency, the convention focused on the current political situation in the country, the protection of democratic institutions and the need to build public opinion against anarchy.
Addressing the gathering as the chief speaker, Rangia MLA Bhavesh Kalita launched a sharp attack on the Congress and Left parties. He alleged that those who had undermined the Constitution were now staging a drama in the name of protecting it while attempting to destabilise the country.
Kalita also claimed that certain anti-national elements were using the Gen Z movement as a pretext to create instability in the country with the sole aim of capturing political power.
BJP Kisan Morcha state president Pankaj Borbora, who attended the convention as an invited guest, also criticised the opposition parties. He said that the development taking place under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership had made opposition parties apprehensive about losing their political relevance.
Convener Prabhat Choudhury explained the objectives of the convention. The event was organised by a convening committee formed at the initiative of retired educationist Prabhat Choudhury, Runumi Dutta Deka and Jyotish Kalita.
The convention, centred on the issues of democracy and constitutional protection, has drawn considerable attention in Rangia’s political and social circles.
