KOKRAJHAR: The Bodoland People's Front (BPF) will not be able to extend full support to a fresh movement demanding a separate Bodoland at the present juncture, BPF president and Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Executive Member Hagrama Mohilary said on November 6.
Speaking to the media after a BTC Executive Council meeting in Kokrajhar on Friday, Mohilary expressed concern that another phase of agitation could adversely affect the younger generation and disrupt their future.
He also warned that a fresh movement could trigger renewed tensions and conflicts between Bodo and non-Bodo communities.
Mohilary clarified that the party's inability to support another agitation at this stage should not be interpreted as opposition to the demand for Bodoland. He said the BPF was neither rejecting nor abandoning the demand, but felt that the prevailing circumstances were not conducive to another movement.
