Washington, November 4:

US President Donald Trump has claimed that Republicans would have secured a massive victory in the 2026 midterm elections had he been on the ballot. His remarks came after Democrats gained control of both chambers of Congress, marking a major setback for his party.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I wasn't on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!” He also indicated that he would accept the election results and work with Democrats.

However, Trump appeared quick to shift responsibility for the defeat to Republican leaders. He said he would take on the role of a political commentator to explain why his party lost. Targeting Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who lost to Democrat Gina Hinojosa, Trump said Abbott would not have lost had he not become a “RINO” — Republican in Name Only.

With Democrats controlling both the House and the Senate, Trump is likely to face significant challenges in pushing through his legislative agenda during the final two years of his second term.

Rising living costs, the administration’s tariff policies and higher fuel prices linked to the US conflict with Iran emerged as major sources of voter dissatisfaction. The results have also left the White House facing questions over the Republican campaign and the quality of its candidates.
