November 4: Iran has reacted to the Republican Party’s poor performance in the US midterm elections. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf claimed that the American people have rejected war. He said voters had expressed their views amid concerns over the rising cost of living and the ongoing conflict.
Ghalibaf said the US government should not act against the wishes of its citizens. According to him, the election results reflect public dissatisfaction over the war and the increasing cost of living in the country.
Meanwhile, Iran has also responded to the election results through social media. A video shared by an account named ‘Iran in India’ shows people lifting an image of Donald Trump and throwing it into a garbage bin. The video mocks Trump over the Republican Party’s electoral setback.
The ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran has affected the country's political and economic situation. Disruptions to oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz have put pressure on global crude oil and petrol prices. Reports of casualties among US military personnel have also contributed to public dissatisfaction.
Meanwhile, Texas has witnessed a significant political development. After 36 years, the Democratic Party has reportedly won the governor’s post in the state. The party’s candidate, Gina Hinojosa, secured around 56.8 per cent of the votes.
The war and rising cost of living have emerged as major issues in the US election. Ghalibaf’s remarks have brought the political exchange between the two countries back into focus.
