Guwahati, November 5: Garima Saikia Garg, wife of late singer Zubeen Garg, has left for Mumbai for advanced medical treatment and specialised counselling. Doctors treating her at Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati had recommended further care at a specialised medical institution, citing concerns over her emotional well-being and persistent sleep difficulties.

Dr Hitesh Baruah, who briefed the media on her health condition on November 3, said Garima’s physical condition was stable. Her blood pressure and blood sugar levels were reported to be within normal ranges. However, doctors remained concerned about the mental stress, emotional distress and sleep disturbances she had been experiencing.

According to Dr Baruah, Garima had been finding it difficult to sleep properly at night and was also experiencing interruptions in her sleep. Her eating habits had also been irregular. The medical team felt that she needed not only continued medical attention but also professional counselling, mental rest and a supportive environment to aid her recovery.

Doctors had recommended that she receive specialised care at a medical institution in Mumbai. The counselling and treatment process was expected to continue for around 15 to 20 days, Dr Baruah had said. The specific institution was to be selected after discussions between her family and the medical team.

Garima was admitted to Nemcare Hospital on October 31 after she suddenly fell ill while attending a programme at Assam Jatiya Bidyalay in Guwahati. She was subsequently examined and placed under medical supervision.

Dr Baruah had appealed to people in Assam to be sensitive towards Garima’s condition and allow her adequate time to recover. He urged the public to respect her personal decisions and future plans and avoid putting additional pressure on her during this difficult period.

The doctor also emphasised the importance of adequate rest, regular sleep, nutritious food and emotional support. He said Garima’s health and peace of mind should remain the priority as she navigates the period following her husband’s death.
