Guwahati, November 2: Assam Police’s Special Task Force (STF) has arrested six people, including a woman, from Guwahati for allegedly operating an organised cyber fraud racket through mule bank accounts. Police suspect possible links with Pakistan Intelligence Operatives (PIOs).

The arrests followed an investigation into suspicious transactions in an SBI account that received lakhs of rupees over a period of just 47 days.

Acting on intelligence inputs from central agencies, the STF launched an operation on October 28 and arrested the accused from different locations in Guwahati over the following three days.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mofijul Haque (22), Himangshu Das (19), Marjina Begum, Rakib Hussain (34), Iftar Hussain (25) and Arman Azuz Hoque (20).

According to an Assam Police statement, the STF registered a case based on a complaint lodged by Sonitpur District Police. Preliminary investigation revealed that an SBI account belonging to accused Marjina Begum received credits amounting to lakhs of rupees between June 22 and August 5, 2026.

The amounts were allegedly withdrawn almost immediately after each deposit, indicating a suspicious transaction pattern, the police statement said.

Further investigation revealed the alleged involvement of Mofijul Haque and Himangshu Das, both residents of Guwahati, in suspicious transactions linked to the account. Investigators suspect a possible connection with a Pakistan Intelligence Operative.

During the October 28 operation, the STF arrested three accused, including Begum, and recovered mobile phones and incriminating documents from their possession.

During interrogation, Mofijul Haque and Himangshu Das allegedly disclosed the names of several other persons associated with the racket.

Acting on these leads, the STF arrested Rakib Hussain on October 29, followed by Iftar Hussain and Arman Azuz Hoque on October 30.

The investigation is continuing to establish the extent of the alleged cyber fraud network and its suspected links with Pakistan.
