Guwahati, November 3:
A decomposed monkey carcass was reportedly found inside the drinking water tank of Hostel No. 7 at Assam Engineering College (AEC) in Jalukbari, Guwahati. More than 50 students have reportedly fallen ill following the incident.
According to students, the carcass had remained inside the tank for nearly a week. During this period, hostel residents allegedly continued using the same water for drinking and cooking.
Students also claimed that the water had been emitting a foul smell for several days before the carcass was discovered.
The incident has raised serious concerns over drinking water safety, hostel maintenance and student welfare at one of Assam's leading engineering institutions.
The exact number of affected students and the cause of their illness are yet to be officially confirmed. An official response from the college authorities is also awaited.
