Kolkata, November 7: Political tensions have escalated in West Bengal following allegations of an attack on the residence of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee. Former Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee launched a sharp attack on the BJP over the incident. She also alleged that traditional Kali Puja celebrations were being disrupted in Kolkata’s Kalighat.
After visiting Abhishek Banerjee’s residence, Mamata challenged the BJP, saying, “How many bulldozers do you have? Come, I am standing right in front of you. Run the bulldozers over my body, my chest.”
Abhishek Banerjee alleged that BJP-backed miscreants attacked his residence on Kalighat Road at around 2 am on Saturday. Describing the incident as a threat to his life, he claimed that it was the seventh attempt on him in the past six months.
Mamata also alleged that permissions for several traditional Kali Puja celebrations in Kalighat had been cancelled. In contrast, she claimed that a newly organised puja had been allowed to take place on the main road.
She further alleged that local clubs were being prevented from carrying out their activities and questioned the restrictions on festival celebrations ahead of Kali Puja and Diwali.
