Actor Prakash Raj criticised the Congress government over its handling of a student protest and urged the education minister to speak to the students and address their concerns.
Raj said the government should focus on why the students were protesting rather than how they were protesting. He said the authorities should understand their problems, hold talks with them and try to resolve them.
He said a court had allowed the students to write their examinations, but the university had gone to court and claimed that they did not meet the criteria to appear for the exams.
“The country is watching, the parents are watching, the public is watching. Behave yourself,” Raj said.
He demanded that the students be allowed to write their examinations and that an investigation be held. He questioned why the authorities were backing the vice-chancellor and asked where the evidence was.
Raj said the students were genuine and honest, and were on a hunger strike. Speaking on behalf of CJP, civil society, parents and students, he said such treatment of students was unacceptable.
He said he had come to join the protest and would sit with the students if the issue was not resolved. Raj also asked the education minister why the Congress government was behaving like the BJP and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
