GHAZIABAD, Nov 8: A 20-year-old food delivery worker was injured in a blast-like incident behind the Vasundhara police post in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad on Friday night, police said.
The incident took place at around 9 pm on November 6 in the Indirapuram police station area. Glass panes of two windows were shattered and a wall developed cracks.
A sub-inspector and the delivery worker were present at the police post at the time. The worker suffered a head injury from broken glass and was sent to hospital. No police personnel were injured.
An X handle named 'Ghazi 2' claimed responsibility for the incident in the name of Tehrik-ul-Mujahidin Hindustan (TMH). Police have not verified the claim or established whether the account was linked to any organisation or the incident.
Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad, bomb disposal squad and forensic experts visited the spot. Officials from the National Investigation Agency, Delhi Police Special Cell, Special Task Force and Intelligence Bureau also inspected the site.
Forensic samples were sent to Agra for examination, while police were checking CCTV footage to determine the cause of the incident.
Preliminary examination found no traces of explosives, gunpowder or chemical residue at the spot, police said. Investigators were examining the possibility that a Diwali firecracker may have landed on the police post's AC unit, while not ruling out a planned attack.
Ghaziabad Police Commissioner J Ravindra Goud said a delivery worker sustained minor injuries and evidence had been collected from the site. He said the cause of the blast-like incident had not yet been confirmed.
Investigators were also examining whether the incident had any link with a suspected module allegedly planning attacks on police officers and security personnel in Uttar Pradesh. No evidence linking the two cases has emerged so far.
