Artist Manas Robin called for a public gathering at Khanapara playground in Guwahati on November 22, expressing dissatisfaction over the lack of significant progress towards justice for Zubeen Garg even a year after his death.
At a press conference, Robin said everyone in Assam loved Zubeen Garg. He said people needed to take a major step for Garg, but the government, the public and the artistic community had not been able to do much even after a year.
He appealed to people from across Assam, particularly youths and students of colleges and universities, to attend the gathering. He called on people from Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Sadiya, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao to participate.
Robin said Zubeen Garg had been turned into a political pawn. He said people in politics could not speak openly on several issues, while participants at the gathering could hold discussions without fear or restrictions.
He said the gathering would provide an opportunity to sit together, discuss the issue and take a decision on doing good work in Zubeen Garg's name.
Robin said the organisers had not yet received administrative permission for the November 22 programme, though they had applied for it. He said the administration should grant permission in the interests of Assam and people who loved Zubeen Garg.
