Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made strong remarks on the ongoing witness examination in the Zubeen Garg death case being heard by a fast-track court. Addressing a press conference, the Chief Minister claimed that 160 witnesses had not made any statement against the accused in court. He also claimed that none of the witnesses had said anything against Amrit Prabha.

“160 witnesses have not said anything against the accused. Not a single word has been said against Amrit Prabha by these 160 witnesses. They say one thing in court and give a different byte outside,” Sarma said.

Commenting on questions being raised about judicial proceedings, the Chief Minister said it was not appropriate to question the processes of the Supreme Court or the High Court. He said the Assam government had never questioned the judiciary.

According to Sarma, the government could do little if witnesses made one statement before him and gave a different account before the court. He referred to a judgment by Gauhati High Court judge Justice Pranjal Das, claiming that the judgment clearly mentioned that 160 witnesses had not said anything in court.

The Chief Minister also made remarks about a prominent cultural figure associated with the movement seeking justice for Zubeen Garg. He claimed that the person had told the court that Zubeen himself was also at fault.

Sarma’s comments have brought renewed attention to the ongoing trial and the movement demanding justice in the death of the popular singer.
